I'd guess you have an Intel RAID controller; you can't use this with 
FreeBSD due to bugs in the RAID controller BIOS.  I've tried talking to 
Intel about this, but they haven't been very responsive, and so there's 
not much you can do about it, short of throwing it out and getting a 
less-buggy controller (I would recommend Adaptec, AMI or Mylex).
