FreeBSD has a patched cvs(1) command which expand the
keyword '$FreeBSD$' by default during a cvs checkout.

If you want expand other rcs keywords as well (e.g. $NetBSD$, $OpenBSD$)
you must configure cvs.

From my memory, this problems was fixed years ago in
cvsweb.conf or cvsweb.conf-netbsd.
