I've been using vmware with great success under -STABLE. Take a look at /usr/ports/emulators/vmware2. It's commercial, but works a lot better than all the alternatives. I've had decent success with pcemu for DOS-based programs, although there are a few quirks. I found bochs also worked pretty well (fewer quirks, more features) but much slower.
