I have a desktop with an ESS Solo-1 and I use the 4Front drivers from
www.opensound.com.  Works well.  I think they support the Maestro too,
but check their site.

I personally think shutdown -h should power down, but it does not.
You need to use shutdown -p for that feature, assuming you have APM
enabled in your kernel.
