>Description:

Installed FreeBSD 4.10 on a virgin system, selected the XFree86 package
during installation. Ran the xf86Config script after installation completed
to setup X server on system. Was able to run X with "startx" and open
xterms with no problem.
Exited X and proceeded to install /usr/ports/XFree86-aoutlibs with make
install, that appeared to work fine.
Attempted to restart X and the server aborted with an error message
from the xterms that were autostarted as to how they couldn't find
libfreetype.so.9

>How-To-Repeat:

>Fix:
Changed to /usr/ports/print/freetype2 and ran "make install". After it
built it errored saying freetype2 had already been installed. Ran
make deinstall then make install to get it installed. I had to also do a
make deinstall and make install in /usr/ports/textproc/expat2 because
that is a dependency of freetype2.

Note that XFree86-aoutlibs is a requirement for the native FreeBSD binary
of Netscape Communicator 4.76 available from ftp.netscape.com

Perhaps it might have just been that the aoutlib port was wrecking
ldconfig's list of hists? I didn't check for this. The current hints
list shows /usr/local/lib/libfreetype.so.9
