AFAICT, they went away when I modified this rc.conf line:
ifconfig_wlan0="DHCP"
to
ifconfig_wlan0="WPA DHCP"
If it wasn't that, it was likely the other rc.conf line I added:
wlans_ath0="wlan0"
I'd be interested if this helps at all in silencing the messages for
your setup.
