I have a very inor problem with the fact that you want to delete the ed1 
driver from the generic kernel. If you delete the ed1 then please leave 
the ed0 driver because where I work we use 4 FreeBSD machines that are 
just for test purposeses but have low-end NE2000 cards that would fail to 
work with new releases of FreeBSD 2.X and onward because of the 
non-existance of the ed1 and ed0 drivers.
