The point wasn't if the port is maintained or not.

The port is not staged.
The current maintainer is going to be reset for failing to stage it.  When that
happens, the port will be deprecated.  If still nobody stages it, the port will
be removed.

So a patch that updates the version also needs to provide stage support -
that's the point.
