I got the modem to accept dial-in. It involved a simple DIP change,
#6 to On. So I did not have to mess with the initialization string.

Also, I added:

	set term vt100

to my friends .login file (csh). Before this his terminal type
wasn't recognized; no pine, no talk. Now with the "set term"
line even tetris works on his terminal. 
( I also added him to the /etc/login.access file, that helped also)
