Damn, what do you know! I was too focused on the drivers directory, and
the comment for the port, I didn't notice that.

Yes! It works!
And then I just use lircd in the same way?
like:  lircd --driver=pinsys --device=/dev/cuaa0 remote.conf

And then use the other ir* programs to control the applications that I
need.
