it probably won't be a big deal running i386 instead of amd64. Of course, y=
ou loose the larger address space, potential optimizations may not be taken=
 advantage of, and there may be amd64-specific ports you will want, but on =
the whole, if you don't think it's a big deal it's probably not. =A0

The "correct" software is the one that does what *you* need it to. ;-)

You can certainly save the file system and upgrade, but exactly how will de=
pend on your drive partitioning/configuration. I'd practice on a vm first.=

Hi list,

I bought a new machine the other day, and accidentally installed the=20
i386 version of FreeBSD on it even though it has a 64-bit processor. It=20
works fine, but I think I'd rather have the "right" version. So, two=20
questions:

1. Is it even worth worrying about at this point?

2. Can I just install amd64 without destroying existing filesystems and=20
files? I realize I'll have to reinstall my ports, but that's OK.

More info below. Yes, the CMOS clock was set incorrectly when I did the=20
install.
