It might be a mistake when initial commit this locale name. I have a proposal to change the system locale name(/usr/share/locale/) , make compatiable with the defination of IANA charset, and let modern I18N application happier. This proposal have no objection here(FreeBSD Chinese community, or said Taiwan). So I just remind that if the directory name follow with /usr/share/locale , it should be zh_TW.Big5. These represent problem reports covering all versions including experimental development code and obsolete releases. Bugs can be in one of several states: o - open A problem report has been submitted, no sanity checking performed. a - analyzed The report has been examined by a team member and evaluated. f - feedback The problem has been solved, and the originator has been given a patch or a fix has been committed. The PR remains in this state pending a response from the originator. s - suspended The problem is not being worked on. This is a prime candidate for somebody who is looking for a project to do. Here's the message I sent Peter and John; N [ This is a draft, please don't make any of these changes yet. Could you look over it and let me know if any of this causes you problems. Thanks -- N ] Can you make a largeish change to the doc/ repository for me please. We're reorganising the directory structure to make it a little more scaleable for new translations of the FreeBSD documentation, and it's best to do this now while the impact is relatively minor. Please; 1. Update the "avail" file so that only I can commit to the doc/ repository. 2. Fixup the English hierarchy; 2.1 Move doc/en/ to doc/en_US.ISO_8859-1/. 2.2 Create a new doc/en_US.ISO_8859-1/books/ directory. 2.3 Move the doc/en_US.ISO_8859-1/handbook/ directory under the new books/ directory, so you now have doc/en_US.ISO_8859-1/books/handbook/. Please rename "handbook.sgml" in this directory to "book.sgml". 2.4 Move the doc/en_US.ISO_8859-1/tutorials/docproj-primer/ directory under the new books/ directory, and call it fdp-primer/ instead, so you now have doc/en_US.ISO_8859-1/books/fdp-primer/. 2.5 Create a new doc/en_US.ISO_8859-1/articles/ directory. 2.6 Move the doc/en_US.ISO_8859-1/tutorials/devel/ directory to the new .../articles/ directory, and rename the directory to "programming-tools". So the complete directory name is doc/en_US.ISO_8859-1/articles/programming-tools/. Rename "devel.docb" in this directory to "article.sgml". 2.7 Repeat the steps in 2.6, but for the .../tutorials/diskformat/ directory. Please rename this directory to "formatting-media" so the complete directory name is doc/en_US.ISO_8859-1/articles/formatting-media/. Rename "diskformat.docb" in this directory to "article.sgml". 2.8 Repeat the steps in 2.6, but for the .../tutorials/disklessx/ directory. Please rename this directory to "diskless-x-server" so the complete directory name is doc/en_US.ISO_8859-1/articles/diskless-x-server/. Rename "disklessx.docb" in this directory to "article.sgml". 2.9 Repeat the steps in 2.6, but for the .../tutorials/fonts/ directory. You do not need to rename this directory, so the complete directory name is doc/en_US.ISO_8859-1/articles/fonts/. Rename "fonts.docb" in this directory to "article.sgml". 2.10 Repeat the steps in 2.6, but for the .../tutorials/mh/ directory. You do not need to rename this directory, so the complete directory name is doc/en_US.ISO_8859-1/articles/mh/. Rename "mh.docb" in this directory to "article.sgml". 2.11 Repeat the steps in 2.6, but for the .../tutorials/multios/ directory. Please rename this directory to "multi-os" so the complete directory name is doc/en_US.ISO-8859-1/articles/multi-os/. Rename "multios.docb" in this directory to "article.sgml". 2.12 Repeat the steps in 2.6, but for the .../tutorials/newuser/ directory. Please rename this directory to "new-users" so the complete directory name is doc/en_US.ISO_8859-1/articles/new-users/. Rename "newuser.docb" in this directory to "article.sgml". 2.13 Please leave the tutorials/ddwg and tutorials/ppp directories. These documents are still marked up in LinuxDoc DTD, and I will migrate them over to DocBook after this repository change. 2.14 At the end of this, the directory hierarchy for the English documentation should look like doc |-- FAQ `-- en_US.ISO_8859-1 : |-- articles : | |-- diskless-x-server : | |-- fonts | |-- formatting-media | |-- mh | |-- multi-os | |-- new-users | `-- programming-tools |-- books | |-- handbook | `-- fdp-primer |-- share `-- tutorials |-- ddwg `-- ppp Note that you have done nothing with the contents of the share/ directory. 3. Fixup the Spanish hierarchy. 3.1 Move doc/es to doc/es_ES.ISO-8859-1/. 3.2 Leave the FAQ where it is, as it hasn't been converted to DocBook yet. 3.3 The Spanish directory hierarchy should look like doc `-- es_ES.ISO_8859-1 : `-- FAQ : : 4. Fixup the Japanese hierarchy. 4.1 Move doc/ja/ to doc/ja_JP.EUC/. Note that an old directory with this name (but with the contents in the attic) already exists. I'm not sure if this poses a problem or not. 4.2 Create a new doc/ja_JP.EUC/books/ directory. 4.3 Move the doc/ja_JP.EUC/handbook/ directory under the new books/ directory, so you now have doc/ja_JP.EUC/books/handbook/. Rename "handbook.sgml" to "book.sgml". 4.4 Leave the FAQ where it is, as it hasn't been converted to DocBook yet. 4.5 The Japanese directory hierarchy should look like doc `-- ja_JP.EUC : |-- books : | `-- handbook : |-- FAQ `-- man 5. Fixup the Russian hierarchy 5.1 Move doc/ru/ to doc/ru_SU.KOI8-R/. 5.2 Leave the FAQ where it is, as it hasn't been converted to DocBook yet. 5.3 The Russian directory hierarchy should look like doc `-- ru_SU.KOI8-R : `-- FAQ : : 6. Fixup the Chinese hierarchy 5.1 Move doc/zh/ to doc/zh_TW.BIG5/. 5.2 Leave the FAQ where it is, as it hasn't been converted to DocBook yet. 5.3 The Chinese directory hierarchy should look like doc `-- zh_TW.BIG5 : `-- FAQ : : When this has been done, I'll synchronise my local copy of the tree with the new version, and then commit new Makefiles that reflect the new directory structure. Once everything's tested and working again, I'll update the "avail" file so that everyone else can commit back to doc/. The -stable and -current actually search real -stable and -current, but there aren't choices for 3.1 or 3.2-release. The attached patch adds in 3.1 and 3.2 release and renames the -stable and -current labels to "3.x-stable" and "4.0-current", respectively. It also makes "3.x-stable" the default instead of "2.2.x-stable". X-Mailer: VM 6.71 under Emacs 19.34.1 Sender: owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Hello, I'm assuming this is the right list to talk about updates to the WWW docs as well. I was wondering if it was time to update FAQ69 w.r.t. the list of sound cards that are supported? It (http://www.freebsd.org/FAQ/FAQ69.html#69) states: FreeBSD supports the SoundBlaster, SoundBlaster Pro, SoundBlaster 16, Pro Audio Spectrum 16, AdLib and Gravis UltraSound sound cards. There is also limited support for MPU-401 and compatible MIDI cards. Cards conforming to the Microsoft Sound System specification are also supported through the pcm driver. I have a Creative Labs PCI128 which *is* supported with the pcm driver mostly due to it being an Ensoniq chip. I don't know if this falls under the category of "conforming to the Micro$oft $ound $y$tem spec." or not, but regardless, it would probably be informative for people investigating FreeBSD to know what these cards are. One would imagine that most people wouldn't know if their sound card was MSS compatible (heck, I don't know if *MY* sound card is ... I just know "it works under Win98"). We might also want to mention in this FAQ entry about "mixer" and that volumes might be set to 0 (thereby avoiding the FAQ of "sound doesn't work!" and it only being a volume problem). I would be willing to accumulate sound card info for this FAQ (maybe by sending a request for info onto -hackers and/or -current) if it would help. -Jr -- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= | John Reynolds CEG, CCE, Next Generation Flows, HLA | | Intel Corporation MS: CH6-210 Phone: 480-554-9092 pgr: 868-6512 | | jreynold@sedona.ch.intel.com http://www-aec.ch.intel.com/~jreynold/ | =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-doc" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-doc Fri Jun 11 12: 3:40 1999 Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Received: from mail.networku.net (unknown [209.180.102.67]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with SMTP id 47FC614F01 for ; Fri, 11 Jun 1999 12:03:37 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from aoe@networku.net) Message-ID: <2540773643661E16A0DF09AE@mail.networku.net> Received: From proxyserver [209.180.102.67] by mail.networku.net [209.180.102.67] with MsgCore/NT [(C) 1999 Nosque Workshop/Dick Lin/Taiwan] BD0210 id2540773643661E16A0DF09AE; Fri Jun 11 14:03:34 1999 -0500 From: "Administrator" To: Subject: Network Card Config Date: Fri, 11 Jun 1999 14:03:24 -0500 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary="----=_NextPart_000_0008_01BEB413.2B9F6FC0" X-Priority: 3 X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 5.00.0810.800 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V5.00.0810.800 Sender: owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_0008_01BEB413.2B9F6FC0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable How can I get my system to identify a second network card to utilize the = FreeBSD system? Is it ISA or PCI? ISA will require modifications to the kernel, but if you already have a similar card working, it should not be a big challenge. If it is a second PCI, even easier, just slap it in, the kernel will pick up multiple cards of the same type with a single line in the kernel config. So, what type of card are you adding, what type do you have working (I assume you do from the way the question is posed), and how is your kernel configured now? -- Crist J. Since those artists' PostScript files tend to be large, we will limit them to five megabytes. We will put no limit on the plain text line printer: # # /etc/printcap for host rose # # # No limit on job size: # rattan|line|diablo|lp|Diablo 630 Line Printer:\ :sh:sd=/var/spool/lpd/rattan:\ :lp=/dev/lpt0:\ :if=/usr/local/libexec/if-simple: # # Limit of five megabytes: # bamboo|ps|PS|S|panasonic|Panasonic KX-P4455 PostScript v51.4:\ :sh:sd=/var/spool/lpd/bamboo:sc:rg=artists:mx#5000:\ :lp=/dev/ttyd5:fs#0x82000e1:xs#0x820:rw:\ :if=/usr/local/libexec/psif:\ :df=/usr/local/libexec/psdf: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note the first example. There is no mx field in rattan records. As is well known, the default value of mx field is 1000 block, and threfore, in the above sample, the size of jobs of users of rattan printer might also be limited to 1000 blocks.
