The line I put into /etc/crontab was something like: * * * * * root /usr/sbin/kbdcontrol -r normal < /dev/console I don't know what problem you are having, but if it's anything like mine, adding: options ASYNCH to your kernel may fix it for you, without needing to resort to using cron.
