Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Sender: owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Hi, I'm running ipfilter on my home freebsd box to firewall and nat my home dsl connection. As more and more people I know around the country get dsl or cable modems, I'm getting more interested in trying out some simple peer-to-peer videoconferencing. So far most everything I can find for windows that's free (netmeeting, blech) just does not work when nat is involved. They also instruct you to poke multiple holes in your firewall to make it work... Is anyone aware of a free H323 proxy I can run on the FreeBSD box to make the magic happen? Note you need to add options BKTR_GPIO_ACCESS to your kernel config file and make a new kernel. /* Ioctl's for direct gpio access */ #ifdef BKTR_GPIO_ACCESS case BT848_GPIO_GET_EN: *(int*)arg = bt848->gpio_out_en; break; case BT848_GPIO_SET_EN: bt848->gpio_out_en = *(int*)arg; break; case BT848_GPIO_GET_DATA: *(int*)arg = bt848->gpio_data; break; case BT848_GPIO_SET_DATA: bt848->gpio_data = *(int*)arg; break; #endif /* BKTR_GPIO_ACCESS */ You want to try this 1) start FXTV and set to CSVIDEO for the Hauppauge camera. 2) start your own program which toggles various GPIO lines. 3) I would try this for starters. int out_enable = 0xffffff; /* set all 24 bits to 1 */ int d, x; ioctl (f, BT848_GPIO_SET_EN, &out_enable); for (x=0; x<24; x++) { d = 1<; Mon, 7 Jun 1999 04:50:46 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from ira@MIT.EDU) Received: from ALL-NIGHT-TOOL.MIT.EDU by MIT.EDU with SMTP id AA10883; Mon, 7 Jun 99 07:51:08 EDT Received: by all-night-tool.mit.edu (8.8.7/4.7) id HAA09057; Mon, 7 Jun 1999 07:50:45 -0400 (EDT) Message-Id: <199906071150.HAA09057@all-night-tool.mit.edu> To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Subject: bt848 and SAP. (I have an AGP G200, so I had to add an offset to the display, or else it shows up outside the window, otherwise no changes were made to fxtv). I've noticed that I get SAP, on one of the speakers of my stereo, and mono audio out of the other. Is there a MSP34xx chip or a TDA chip or something else. (another BTSC decoder) 2) Can you send me the output of fxtv -debug My problem is that I live in the UK, where we have mono or NICAM stereo (a digital stereo signal). I've not got any DBX hardware here in the UK. So, I can give advice, but you'll probably need to do some coding yourself. The biggest problem with the Bt848 driver at this time is that no-one in the USA has written the code to correctly initialise and use BTSC chips, like the TDA9xxx range. The code in the current driver mearly mutes it. Like Ken Krebs said, it just ...works! Kudos and great job everyone that played a part! (3.2-RELEASE, Voodoo1 Canopus Pure3D here) Now, where's the quake server FreeBSD folks hang out on?! It's payback time! :-) Only two strange things I've seen so far, and I don't know if its linux_emul or an inherent problem with q3test. First, sometimes the modifier keys get "stuck". The gun (activated by Ctrl) will be firing madly though I'm not touching the keyboard. Seems that q3test is somehow missing the key break event. I think I saw this with Slide (Alt) as well as head up/down (A/Z), though I'm not sure about the last. Also, when keying in a quake server to start an "Internet Game", hitting the shift key causes a repeat of the previously-typed character. Shift is needed to type a ":" for the quake server (host:port), so I ended up playing a game to get the right host:port in there. E.g. to type: 12.21.16.19:27960 I'd type: 12.21.16.1999:27960 would nuke the last 9, would erase the 9 before that (repeating the last keypress), and I'd be good-to-go for the colon. Strange. But those little details aside, this is great fun. I don't think I've enjoyed myself so much in FreeBSD since the Bt848 driver first came out ;-) Randall To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-multimedia" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-multimedia Mon Jun 7 19: 0:39 1999 Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from pluto.ipass.net (pluto.ipass.net [198.79.53.5]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 905AC1502B for ; Mon, 7 Jun 1999 19:00:16 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from rhh@ipass.net) Received: from stealth.ipass.net. Well, I finally got a reply from AverMedia and after checking on the Linux Infra Red Controller (LIRC) web site, I found the source and specs for the AverMedia and FlyVideo IR modules. I do not have AverMedia or Flyvideo hardware, so I'm not going to look into it, but if owner/hackers of these cards want to knock something up for the Bt848 driver, I'll gladly add it in along side the Hauppauge IR support we already have. I have been working to implement the framework to accomodate midi into Luigi's audio driver. The framework has come equivalent to VoxWare since the patch in 23rd May. Although I released a new one in 5th June, it is just a few cleanup, the core of the framework is not changed. I have been playing some midi sequences for about an hour every morning since the beginning of May to test the framework, to experience no panics nor messy notes caused by the framework. The latest patch is at: http://www.naklab.dnj.ynu.ac.jp/~tanimura/freebsd-serialmidi/patches/uart16550-19990605.diff.gz This should be a good candidate to merge into current, so please test this patch and report how it worked. I downloaded it and with little effort I squeezed it through gcc. Unfortunately, it didn't work. There where simply no pages, even the built-in help pages I could only see, when running under a debugger. It was quite late and I didn't try too hard to get it working. So, my question is, if someone already got it to work. I really prefer a single fast program for viewing teletext, instead of running vbidecode and a slow java application. To complement this I have now added 'vbidecode' and 'videotext' to the ports collection /usr/ports/misc 'vbidecode' lets to decode teletext pages and save them to disk as .vtx files. There is one file for each page / sub-page 'videotext' lets to view/print/save to GIF and PNG the saved .vtx files. It also allows background searching of all teletext pages on disk. Currently getting VBI working is a bit of a hastle 1) you need to open /dev/vbi0 BEFORE you start FXTV 2) you need to start FXTV and enlarge it so it goes into Interlaced Mode (moving objects then get jaggy edges) Both of these issues are fixable, but I have not got the time to do it right now. Also, check the number of Scan Lines the program is expecting. Linux recently switched from 16 to 19 lines of VBI captured per frame. The application may be hard coded to the wrong thing. > So, my question is, if someone already got it to work. I really > prefer a single fast program for viewing teletext, instead of > running vbidecode and a slow java application. Well, there is a Fast C program called 'videotext' which views the .vtx files too. It can also print and Save as Gif and do background searches of all the saved teletext pages. Infact it is excellent. Both 'vbidecode' and 'videotext' are now in the ports collection in the 'misc' directory. Warning - videotext goes really slow on KDE 1.0 (not tried a newer KDE) and uses 50% CPU time. But under standard X11 with no special window manager, it is fast and uses 2-3% CPU which is what is should be doing. Weird. > But this configuration does work and I like to thank Roger for > his great work! :-) > When we will ever meet, I'll contribute a sixpack of beer! Thanks. Glad to be appreciated. I felt really let down recently when I purchased my WinTV card and tried it out with my #9 Imagine 128 Series II. As the XFree86 I128 server (version 3.3.3.1) doesn't support the Direct Video feature of DGA, 320x240 was kind of flickery, and 640x480 mode ended up queuing up so many X events that the entire machine very quickly became totally unusable (dual PPro 233Mhz, 3.x) and, sometimes, even switching back to the smaller mode or bouncing the X server was impossible.. I figured out that it was the lack of Direct Video support that was the problem, but getting tech info on the card seemed to be a hassle (and I've never hacked an X server before, either). I like the I128 card a lot (and paid $$ for it, too), and it looked like another card to run 1600x1200 @ 85Hz wasn't gonna be cheap... Then someone mentioned VMware to me in another context, and I took a look at their website (www.vmware.com). I nearly fell off my chair when I noticed that they provide patches to XFree86 3.3.3.1 to provide DGA/Direct Video support for the following cards/servers: SVGA, Mach64, S3Virge, 3DLabs, i128. I believe that at least some of these already have Direct Video, but I know that the I128 server didn't - until now!! I found that the Direct Video image was offset to the right by ~= 448 pixels at all resolutions (at least in 16 bit mode) but this was easily patched thanks to Randall's answers to similar problems with the Matrox cards (from the archives). The difference in the quality of the image with Direct Video is tremendous - I just wanted to thank everyone involved with the bt848 driver and fxtv - it totally rocks!!! (I'm a little pumped right now, as you can probably tell.. ;-) Cheers, AS To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-multimedia" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-multimedia Fri Jun 11 19: 4:14 1999 Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from picnic.mat.net (picnic.mat.net [206.246.122.133]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5395115380 for ; Fri, 11 Jun 1999 19:04:04 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from chuckr@picnic.mat.net) Received: from localhost (chuckr@localhost) by picnic.mat.net (8.9.3/8.8.5) with ESMTP id WAA08495 for ; Fri, 11 Jun 1999 22:04:13 -0400 (EDT) Date: Fri, 11 Jun 1999 22:04:13 -0400 (EDT) From: Chuck Robey To: FreeBSD-multimedia@FreeBSD.org Subject: midi questions Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Sender: owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org I've been trying to get Seigo Tanimura's new midi driver to work ... and not doing too well. It's probably because I haven't paid all that much attention to sound, so I don't know it as well as I should. I want to ask a few questions. If you know any of the answers, I'd appreciate some info. I have an Intel DK440LX motherboard (because of the dual processors). It has a pretty large array of on-board peripherals, and the sound is one of them, based upon (according to the pdf docs) Crystal CS4236B, which has an OPL-3 compatible FM synthesizer. The new midi driver actually has the ability to drive a midi connection, so I have to know about the midi port, which I've never needed before. Add that to PNP, that's causing my problems in getting it all going. I have had sound working great, via PNP & kernel.conf, so I am reasonably familiar with pnp(4) and kget(8), and the boot files. I've had my sound rearranging itself via kernel.conf successfully. Does the midi port need it's own IRQ? I had the sound card listed as running on IRQ 15, ioaddr 0x534 for WSS. The soundblaster compatibility at ioaddr 0x220; I didn't have a line for the FM sythesizer. Here's the line I had: pnp 1 0 os enable port0 0x534 port2 0x220 irq0 15 drq0 1 drq1 0 OK, to add the FM synthesizer, I added a port 1 clause, which changed the line to: pnp 1 0 os enable port0 0x534 port 1 0x388 port2 0x220 irq0 15 drq0 1 drq1 0 pnpinfo seemed to find this ok, and set it up. The midi(4) man page that came with Seigo's driver talks about the midi uart --- does it share that same irq (the one I had set to 15) or does it need it's own? I had set up a second kernel.conf line: pnp 1 3 os enable port0 0x330 irq 15 which I thought would handle midi. It kept on giving me the error line /kernel: open: unit 1 not configured, perhaps you want unit 2 ? I tried setting that line 2 of kernel.conf so it would use irq 11 (an irq of it's own). It still doesn't work. The probe message doesn't tell a lot: uartsio0: probing at port 0x330. opl0: probing at port 0x330. Is that 0x330 address right, for a uart? I thought that was the address to right to the midi device ... I didn't realize that's a uart. Here's the end of my pnpinfo listing, maybe it will be of help: Logical device #0 IO: 0x0534 0x0388 0x0220 0x0000 0x0000 0x0000 0x0000 0x0000 IRQ 15 0 DMA 1 0 IO range check 0x00 activate 0x01 Logical device #1 IO: 0x0200 0x0000 0x0000 0x0000 0x0000 0x0000 0x0000 0x0000 IRQ 0 0 DMA 4 4 IO range check 0x00 activate 0x01 Logical device #2 IO: 0x0120 0x0000 0x0000 0x0000 0x0000 0x0000 0x0000 0x0000 IRQ 0 0 DMA 4 4 IO range check 0x00 activate 0x01 Logical device #3 IO: 0x0330 0x0000 0x0000 0x0000 0x0000 0x0000 0x0000 0x0000 IRQ 0 0 DMA 4 4 IO range check 0x00 activate 0x01 ----------------------------+----------------------------------------------- Chuck Robey | Interests include any kind of voice or data chuckr@picnic.mat.net | communications topic, C programming, and Unix. 213 Lakeside Drive Apt T-1 | Greenbelt, MD 20770 | I run picnic and jaunt, both FreeBSD-current. The midi(4) man page chuckr> that came with Seigo's driver talks about the midi uart --- does it chuckr> share that same irq (the one I had set to 15) or does it need it's own? The 'uart' at this moment means a serial port, *not* the one on a sound card nor an onboard chip. It is for a midi sound module, SC-88 etc. The midi uart on a sound card or an onboard chip shares its interrupt with the pcm. chuckr> I had set up a second kernel.conf line: chuckr> chuckr> pnp 1 3 os enable port0 0x330 irq 15 chuckr> chuckr> which I thought would handle midi. I thought that was the address chuckr> to right to the midi device ... I didn't realize that's a uart. On port 0x330 is a midi interface of MPU401 subset, which is still under a work. What you need seems to use a line like this in your config: device midi0 at isa? port 0x388 0x388 is the typical port address where an OPL3 lives. Also, an OPL3 do not use an interrupt. I am afraid I need some further work to have my driver merged smoothly to the coming newbused pcm driver. I would also like to see how my driver works under many sound cards and onboard chips, to understand them well. Thank you very much! I've been hunting through mailing list archives all morning trying to figure out why I'm not getting any audio with fxtv, and I'm starting to think this is the problem. The driver detects ok on startup: bktr0: rev 0x02 int a irq 11 on pci0.4.0 bti2c0: iicbb0: on bti2c0 iicbus0: on iicbb0 master-only iicsmb0: on iicbus0 smbus0: on iicsmb0 smb0: on smbus0 iic0: on iicbus0 smbus1: on bti2c0 smb1: on smbus1 Hauppauge WinCast/TV, Philips FR1236 NTSC FM tuner, msp3400c stereo. Detected a MSP3430G-A1 and the video comes in clear as day, but no audio, just a light click every time a channel is changed. I tried hooking earphones directly to the line out on the hauppauge card, but I get no sound at all, not even any buzzing. Any ideas? I checked the audio levels for everything with mixer: % mixer Mixer vol is currently set to 90:90 Mixer bass is currently set to 75:75 Mixer treble is currently set to 75:75 Mixer synth is currently set to 75:75 Mixer pcm is currently set to 75:75 Mixer speaker is currently set to 75:75 Mixer line is currently set to 95:95 Mixer mic is currently set to 100:100 Mixer cd is currently set to 75:75 Mixer igain is currently set to 75:75 Mixer ogain is currently set to 75:75 so nothing is wrong with the sound config. I believe you are right about the audio production only being done on the 3430G chip rather than going straight from the tuner to the audio output, though without the FM radio support I fail to see the reasoning behind doing so. But mine is not to question why... I bought this card used, but it came in a shrinkwrapped retail package, so I know it isn't supposed to tune to FM radio stations. hrm. It's a US tuner so seeing as it only decodes NTSC signals doesn't surprise me. I'll take a look at the data sheet, though I can't say I've worked on this bt848 driver whatsoever, so it probably won't make a whole lot of sense. Also, I tried including a kernel config options options BKTR_NO_MSP_RESET and did a soft boot after initializing the windoze driver with no luck, so that is out. Although the adverts say "no radio", nothing prevents one to configure the audio-chip and pll for radio reception. In fact, two near mono channels can be listened concurrently ! There are nice "example telegrams" somewhere in the end of the spec, adding appropriate writes to msp_autodetect() at the end of the driver should be straightforward. Conveniently the 'autodetect' command is just the same between 34xxD and 34xxG. Looks like it is not enough. I'd start by adding a msp_write(bktr, 0x10, 0x0030, ???) into the MODUS, with appropriate bits to give precedence for US broadcasts, there's a table in the spec; and another to FM-PRESCALE, setting it to the max. Note that modus must be written before auto-detect command. NICAM reception here had a similar quirk, it was receiving okay, but the level was so low it was totally unaudible. 7Fh into NICAM-PRESCALE did the trick.
