Possibly. I'm waiting to hear back from the Gnumeric folks as to whether this was an intentional change, and whether other GNOME applications are going to follow suit. GNOME 1.4 will split the environment into two distinct components, the "core" release providing the basics, with a number of "approved" applications, and then an "extras" release containing all the eye- (and other-) candy that you could possibly want.
