I don't get annoyed, I also use a MS windows mail client (and don't mind
admitting it).


You could also put a script file in /etc/periodic/monthly. (much easier than
playing with cron)

Or, if you use QPopper, read the man section on bulldir

Please, can you use 80 character lines?  Everyone gets real annoyed at
your wide lines.

anyhow, for that last thing, read man 5 crontab, and use the pattern
0 0 1 * *
