I > am a dummy by choice. Yeah, X11 is what is used to display the graphics. A tool kit is then used to make that job simpler. The toolkit used by Gnome is GTK+ and for KDE it is QT. It is a rather nice system, despite what you hear from all the idiots on slashdot and ect.
