I just said how to check the version in the previous comment.  So, no, it is
not true that we can't handle versions because the PCI ID doesn't change.  =
As I
said in the previous comment, the fix is to make it not be a PCI ID-based
quirk.  There are published docs that the source code references (e.g.
sys/x86/x86/tsc.c and sys/x86/include/vmware.h) on how the hypercalls and l=
eaf
functions work, so the patch is not impossible, but someone will have to do
some work to write a patch and test it.
