Looking at the failure mode you report, I wonder whether CFLAGS+= -Wl,-rpath=${PREFIX}/lib/gcc44 LDFLAGS+= -Wl,-rpath=${PREFIX}/lib/gcc44 added to the Makefile works for you. (This is not the proposed solution, it is a test, assuming you are using g++44, otherwise change the path to have gcc45 as its last component.) Gerald
