I think that it can be easily done by setting the default gateway on the
1.2.3.55 machine to be the 1.2.3.44 router.  Then for incoming traffic,
you need to add a `host route' to the router of 1.2.3.0/24 (is this the
1.2.3.44 machine?) that will destined for 1.2.3.55 over the right
interface.
