Raw number of users?  Linux has more than FreeBSD.  Types of users?
Well, that's debatable.  But popularity isn't the best metric to judge
an OS.

MS-DOS has more users than Linux and FreeBSD combined, but it's a
crappy OS.

FreeBSD will be closer to SCO in some regards, while Linux will be in
others.  Give it a try, and draw your own conclusions.  If you need
