I like this approach the best so far.  For the most part it
handles my issue with a bombing install due to undocumented
feature and sort of hides world.  I'm beginning to get tired
of this discussion, can we talk about something else?

Heh, of course, we could just document DESTDIR along with
HISTORICAL_MAKE_WORLD and have done with it.
