Here are teh messages I'm getting: ed0 at 0x300-0x31f irq 5 on isa ed0: address 00:c0:d1:57:16:19 type NE2000 (16 bit) ... ed0: device timeout ... ed0: device timeout I can tell that the card is accepting packets up until the local system is started.
