You need to run xdm on the FreeBSD box. Install the XFree86 distribution but you don't need the actual servers. ( you can use the mono one though I think but it is kinda useless ;-) Since you only have an ega monitor.. make sure that you edit the /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xdm/Xservers file and comment out the line: :0 local /usr/X11R6/bin/X you should then be able to use it as an xdm server. Make sure that you read the xdm man page and loot at the rest of the files in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xdm and configure them properly for your setup. I currently have a similar setup ( although I use my vga console as well ) and some of my users have xwin32 servers for their PC and can connect and run without too many problems.
