(1) Boot your old kernel (if you followed the usual kernel install
procedure, it should be called kernel.old).  You can specify a kernel
to boot after entering command mode at the boot prompt.
(2) Copy /kernel.old to /kernel.safe so that it won't be overwritten
with your next kernel build.
(3) Rebuild your kernel, specifying a suitable CPU class in your
kernel config file.
