I've loaded the mysql binary on a 2.2.7 machine and it won't let me in....ie
all of the utilities mysqladmin, mysqldump, etc fail saying "failed to connect
to localhost". I can telnet to the port find and mysqld is running.

I can't change the root password with the "-u root password 'new-password'"
either as I get the same message.

Any ideas?
