yep -- well, as terry said, try 3.0b2, but don't go out on the web
with it as it has some security problems.

i think i'll write to the guy.  his comments on that page are quite
revealing... that freebsd needs some more work to better handle the
threads.  anyone have more info on this? (i have no idea what the
date is on that page, and things might have changed a lot.)
