The boot image is still on the POA site at http://www.jp.FreeBSD.org/PAO/ This will work fine even though he doesn't have a laptop. The binary install can also be done from ftp://daemon.jp.FreeBSD.org There may be other mirror sites as well, but I know that 2.2.8 is in this tree.
