This is exactly what I did. I had a USB to PS/2 adapter that allows a USB mouse to function on a PS/2 port. I neglected to mention that the output of /var/log/messages in the event that I had the mouse plugged in through an adapter of this type.

The output is as follows :

Interestingly enough, I had merely assumed the same thing was occurring, though I was mistaken. As you can see from the log, the mouse does not seem to be detected at all when attached through a USB to PS/2 adapter. However, the mouse appears to be powered. I have taken the mouse to the house of a fellow who uses windows 98 and we attempted to get it working on his machine. The mouse worked flawlessly when attached through USB. We had some issues getting it to work through the PS/2 adapter, but it did even tually work.

Thank you in advance for your help.

 Daniel
