There might be good reasons why you want to be able to disable the sc0 device, for example if you're booting from a serial console and don't have the appropriate video hardware installed at all. (Yes, about 80 or such percent of the PeeCees do know how to handle this situation.) Unfortunately, the configuration screen at first-time boot is the same as for any further boot (basically), so generally disabling to shoot into your foot is not an option.
