I ran into the same issue yesterday, and I happened to have/keep 7 snapshots of /usr/local on an NFS mounted external NAS. I had to manually copy the .so file ouit from the prior day snapshot, into /usr/local/lib to proceed with the gettext (re)installation/upgrade as described on 20141130 in UPDATING. If you have a copy of that .so file on another machine/FS, etc., that's how I got it working. Not ideal at all, and it doesn't solve the root cause. I'd also be curious how others succefully upgraded gettext from the 20141130 UPDATING entry. -- Chip Cuccio
