Speaking of which...are there any decent references that would explain
what multicasting is, why one would want to use it, how one would use it,
how one would configure it, etc?

I gather it provides a means to broadcast to odd groupings of systems that
can't be precisely described with regular IP address based broadcasting,
but past that I haven't been able to find clues. I've looked at 'man
mrouted' but I don't know a lot of the basic terminology and would like to
have at least a vague idea as to some general ideas & meanings. This
stuff isn't my job, so I don't really need in depth understanding, but I'm
curious, nonetheless.
