What kind of printer do you have?

"man -t <manpage>" will write postscript to stdout. If you have
a postscript printer then simply pipe it into lpr.

If you don't have a postscript printer you might seriously consider
inserting ghostscript in your lpr filters. These days having a
postscript printer is about as handy as an FPU, you can live without,
but its a pain.

(from an FPU-less NexGen Nx586-90, but a real Postscript printer)
