Why did this fail?  What errors did you get?  This is how I build gnome,
and it has worked everytime for me.  There was a recent problem with
gnome-utils, but that has sense been fixed.

My advice would be to delete all the gnome packages you have installed,
then re-cvsup ports, and try your build again.  If things go south, email
the errors you received.
