Consider http://people.freebsd.org/~imp/conf.diff It implements that test, with one caveat. The major version number (the 6 in 600003) is also tested. We should only bump this version number whenever there's a major change in the config system such that the new config can't grok older config files. So it should *NOT* be automatically bumped at branch points, but incremented by the human doing the backwards incompatible change. Warner
