It can be added with 'pkg_add' just like any other FreeBSD package. It installs into /usr/local/interbase and makes the following symlinks: /usr/interbase -> /usr/local/interbase /usr/local/lib/libgds.so /usr/interbase/lib/gds.so /usr/local/lib/libgds_pyxis.a /usr/interbase/lib/gds_pyxis.a Only the classic version of the server is included in this package, the SuperServer (a threaded version) will be available later. This package has been built from the Firebird project source code. Please see http://sourceforge.net/projects/firebird/ if you wish to get involved in the development of InterBase 6. If you wish to find information on how to configure and use InterBase 6, please see http://www.interbase2000.org/ or http://www.interbase.com Regards, Chris Knight Systems Administrator AIMS Independent Computer Professionals Tel: +61 3 6334 6664 Fax: +61 3 6331 7032 Mob: +61 419 528 795 Web: http://www.aims.com.au To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-database" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-database Sun Aug 13 18:59:25 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-database@freebsd.org Received: from search.sparks.net (search.sparks.net [208.5.188.60]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C292337B54E for ; Sun, 13 Aug 2000 18:59:23 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from dmiller@search.sparks.net) Received: by search.sparks.net (Postfix, from userid 100) id E96C6DC74; Sun, 13 Aug 2000 21:56:52 -0400 (EDT) Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by search.sparks.net (Postfix) with ESMTP id 99D2BDC73; Sun, 13 Aug 2000 21:56:52 -0400 (EDT) Date: Sun, 13 Aug 2000 21:56:52 -0400 (EDT) From: David Miller To: Chris Knight Cc: freebsd-database@freebsd.org Subject: Re: InterBase 6.0 for FreeBSD 4.x In-Reply-To: <000001c00580$4bb4d970$020aa8c0@aims.private> Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Sender: owner-freebsd-database@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.ORG On Mon, 14 Aug 2000, Chris Knight wrote: > Howdy, > > InterBase 6.0 is now available for FreeBSD 4.x at > http://www.sea-incorporated.com/pub/firebird-1.0.tgz. > > It can be added with 'pkg_add' just like any other FreeBSD package. > It installs into /usr/local/interbase and makes the following symlinks: > > /usr/interbase -> /usr/local/interbase > /usr/local/lib/libgds.so /usr/interbase/lib/gds.so > /usr/local/lib/libgds_pyxis.a /usr/interbase/lib/gds_pyxis.a > > Only the classic version of the server is included in this package, the > SuperServer (a threaded version) will be available later. This is tremendous, I've always liked interbase:) Are there any connectivity options planned, like interfaces to perl/tcl/python/whatever? The more of us using InterBase 6.0 on FreeBSD means that there is more chance of further development being ported to FreeBSD. Had to use pkg_add -p /usr/local to install it into /usr/local. +DISPLAY mentions /usr/interbase as well. Why does inetd.conf example use root? It doesn't need root to run, right?
