Try "atacontrol list" and "atacontrol status raid" and see atacontrol(8).

You gave no details about these freezes or the circumstances in which they
happened, so no-one would know how to help.

Why do you think it's related to your ATA controler?

Please take this question to -questions, since you aren't tracking STABLE.
