Just got this error too, 4 locks though, also on a Radeon 7000.
Everything has been as expected until this, i.e. loss of drm if
start/re-start X, relatively low frame rate; due to the hardware
not the driver, etc. Exact situation:

startx # kde and various other typical desktop sundries
foobillard # full screen 1024x768 (screen for desktop 1280x1024)
# play awhile then alt-return to windowize
# other stuff then activate the foobillard window
# freeze - sorta; pointer still moves but no actions with
# keyboard or mouse
ssh to.machine
killall foobillard
killall -9 foobillard

Now I'm not sure if the *ERROR* occured before or after the kill.
