The most basic tool for this is called 'tcpdump'.  It ships with the
system, although you need to build a new kerne with the Berkeley Packet
Filter in order for it to look at the network.

Several tools are implemented on top of tcpdump, such as tcpshow.

Trafshow is a bit more graphical representation of tcpdump data.
