Welcome to FreeBSD then :)
If you are new at this, you might want to wait a bit until this is commited so 
you can upgrade with usual means - updating your ports tree with cvsup (see 
Handbook about doing that: 
http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/ports-using.html)
and perhaps using portupgrade port (sysutils/portupgrade) to upgrade ports. 
X.Org ports are already at 6.8.1 now, so that is why the patch won't apply 
(it applies to current state of ports tree) - so even if you would want to 
apply the patch, you would still need to update your ports tree to get all 
the changes since the FreeBSD release which you installed.
