Seeing noone else has pounced .. we run Darkice for audio logging, but a hacked version of edcast_jack for streaming, and that on a Debian box using jackd and ALSA to split the feed to both of them, which may not seem relevant at all .. but we use Mix as the recording device, zeroing levels and muting all channels we're not using (mic, pcm, CD etc). We record from Line and set levels on that, but it works the same using just pcm in the mix instead. Not what you asked I know, but it may work ok for you .. with digital mixing with everything else off or zero, there's no degradation.
