I just did a send-pr for the same problem with the XFree86-4 port,
which has exactly the same symptoms.  The workaround is:

      % cd /usr/ports/x11/XFree86-4/work
      % ln -s XFree86-4.0 xc
      % cd ..
      % make

I'm guessing that if you make the obvious changes this will get you
past the problem with 3.3.6 too.  Hope so!
