What are you using? I have a Dell Inspiron 7500 (last year's model, now out of production :-) On the whole I'm quite happy with Dell. Other people like Sony and IBM. Note that IBM had some problems with recent BIOSes which caused the machine to freeze up if it found a FreeBSD partition on disk. That problem has been fixed on at least some of the machines, but you should check first.
