Auto slicing gives a 50 MB root on a 3+ GB drive. If one then tries to install a lot, there are failures writing to root. 

>How-To-Repeat:
Use auto slicing to get a root partition of 50 MB and install everything.
>Fix:
The problem vanishes if root is manually set at 70 MB.

The best solution would be to move out of root everything that is not part of the core operating system.
