Also, I have done my homework by reading the FAQ cover to cover, and the installation notes plus bits and pieces of The Handbook. Now for what I am attempting to accomplish. I would like to have a few X apps installed to take over the duties of my old tools, primarily a finance/accounting tool (cbb), a spreadsheet, LaTeX, and (of course) X to run them under. Plus a few development tools for development and compiling software. Hardware compatibility is not a problem. The OS installs nicely, recognizing my hardware, as does X, the base system, and selected packages. I use either the Novice or Custom installation options while acclimatizing myself to freeBSD and the install procedure. The problem: the cbb port does not behave properly and even crashes, though it was installed from the distribution CD at install time. This sends me into the pkg realm, scrambling for the approrpiate packages to update for the app to work as expected. Tcl/tk is installed from packages list at install. Perl 5.004001 is installed from packages list at install. I would appreciate suggestions or pointers from those more familiar. Thanks in advance. jmastrol@msc.net
