Created the .xinitrc file for the user "gnome" that reads: exec /usr/X11R6/bin/gnome-session just as it is for the user "stacey" Performed the logoff routine (killing pids / removing ~/.gnome/session*) I logged off Logged back in as the user "gnome" Ran "startx" I *IMMEDIATELY* had the Gnome Startup GUI screen.., and was completely logged into Gnome / Sawfish Desktop within 5 seconds of running "startx" I logged out of Gnome Logged off the system (as the user "gnome") Logged back on the system as the user "stacey" Ran startx Delays - 2 minutes, 27 seconds. Somehow, this is a user-level issue? Let me know what else I can get for you, please.
