Would it cause problems if I were to copy or hardlink *all* shared libraries installed by ports into /usr/local/lib/compat/pkg? I'm thinking of doing this for the duration of an upgrade with Portmanager to avoid problems with temporary version mismatches, and then just deleting the backups on successful completion.
