Available?  You're saying it was written and ready to go before Apple
started work on OS X?  I thought it was specifically written for that OS, or
perhaps I'm confusing terms.

Compatibility with open-source and open standards, you mean, as opposed to
the proprietary Apple future?

I never tried it, but I suspect not.  But no one tried to say that Windows
was just a standard MS-DOS system with a few extra programs.
