Here's the original message posted by Jordan to the -announce list..

Subject: Proposed date for creation of 3.0-stable

Since everyone is going to be off at Christmas or New Years parties
and such for the next 10 days or so, it would be impractical to
schedule the branch date any earlier than mid-January and so that is
what I'm going to do. Unless circumstances dictate otherwise, 3.0
will depart the -current branch on January 15th, 1999 (sometime in the
evening, west coast time). The 3.0.1 release will follow 30 days
later, on Feb 15th. 1999.

So, all you developers, please consider this your ADVANCE NOTICE of
these events and don't come crying to me on January 14th about how you
weren't given enough time to get your changes into 3.0. :-)

Thanks!

- Jordan
