The percentage system time is kinda high too - is that typical of this system? Can you have a look at the output of dmesg and see if there is anything mentioned around the stall time. Also, what type of SCSI card do you have? The relivant lines from /var/log/dmesg.boot might be useful. It is possible that the system is just running low on memory and getting stuck trying to free it up. Matt Dillon made some improvements in this area, which probably came in since 4.1... David.
